Why This Must Be Read:

 Jack may be General Jack O’Neill, but there’s no doubt that he is still an integral part of the lives of his flagship team.  In the daily interactions on base and off between Jack and the rest of SG-1, Abyssis shows us some of the best about promotion, all with a delicate humor and Jack’s irrepressible voice, and without being heavy-handed or dismissive of the harder moments caused by separation, voluntary or not.

 "Daniel, it's Saturday, what are you doing in the Mountain? You're supposed to have a day off!"

"You know how it is…Sam's here too!"

"We'll, you're both supposed to be here, eating the shepherd's pie I slaved away all afternoon making. The one now getting cold. Get your butts over here, and grab Teal'c while you're at it."

"Oh, right, Jack, sorry," Daniel said, hanging up before Jack could respond.

It was forty-five more minutes before they finally barged into his house, three large, flat boxes in Teal'c's arms. Jack remembered a time they'd at least pretend to try his cooking before giving up and ordering pizzas. Generals got no respect.

Getting to remix for you gave me all kinds of reasons to read through your archive--and to remember why and how much I love this story. Meant to drop you a line to say I'd re-recc'ed it, but got overwhelmed yesterday by RL.
