Why This Must Be Read: This is what I love about Sam/Jack: how very far from perfect they both are, and how much potential they have for completely screwing things up. This fic shows just how much they're both only human - Sam's tendency to stick her head in the sand about relationship issues, Jack wanting to show how he feels through actions rather than words - and how they muddle through, nonetheless (with the very tolerant support of their friends).

It's open-ended and non-prescriptive, extremely authentic in both medical and character details, and has the most convincingly understated accidental pregnancy I've come across. It's also well-written, sort of romantic, fairly angsty, but above all, human.

Feeling stupid is not a common feeling for Samantha Carter. Awkward, certainly. Uncomfortable, definitely.

But stupid, never.

She’s in the military, in the Gate program, and by now she should be used to the fact that her body is not her own. Ten minutes ago, Dr. Lam informs her that a routine post-mission pregnancy test is positive. Sam barely has enough time to pick herself up off the floor before she is ushered into the General’s office.

Lam had mentioned that Depo-Provera had a 0.3% failure rate when Sam had first started on the contraceptive. Sam doesn’t accept that kind of an error margin in her naquadah generators. She is utterly horrified with herself for not being more careful.
