Why This Must Be Read: I discovered this excellent ficlet last year, when it was recced in the Teal'c category. After fifteen months, I think it's high time it got recced again - this time in Episode Related.
Jane Davitt doesn't often write gen, but when she does, it's usually short, sharp and powerful. Bread and Butter Letters is a perfect example, as Teal'c confronts McKay in the aftermath of 48 Hours. Teal'c is simply awesome here, as he calmly and coolly dissects McKay's babble, motivations, and weaknesses. Characterization is stellar and clear, and the final zinger is so Teal'c that you can't help but cheer him on!
Any story that makes you wish it had actually happened on-screen has got to be good. :)
"You were more interested in the problem than my survival."
McKay's eyes glinted wistfully. "It was an interesting problemā¦"
"You wished to be correct and to be applauded upon your insight."
"Well, I often am. Right, I mean. The applauseā¦" McKay seesawed his hand. "Not so much."
"You wished Major Carter's approval," Teal'c continued, inexorable, certain, watching his prey carefully.
