Why this must be read:

In the final seven days before they reach Atlantis, Rodney goes to Teyla’s quarters each day, asking to join her in meditation. But they don’t meditate; just sit in silence together, side by side, with thighs and arms touching as if sharing strength and support and a small taste of home.

A heart-breaking story about Rodney and Teyla being stuck on Earth after Atlantis is lost and how they learn to adjust to not being home. [personal profile] bluejbirddoes a great job of having the characters adjusting to their new situation, with Rodney being stuck somewhere between his personality on Atlantis and his more abrasive Earth personality and Teyla becoming more introverted. I always like stories were the relationship develops gradually, where there is no explicit moment that you can point to and say this is where the characters got together and that is certainly true of Rodney and teyla's relationship in this story, it is very natural

“I’m sorry,” Rodney said suddenly, and she turned to look at him. “For, well, not for this,” he said, waving a hand at the idle Stargate, “because whatever idiocy is preventing them from contacting us is clearly nothing to do with me since I’ve been here on Earth the entire time.”

Teyla could hear the guilt in his voice, his anger at himself for not being there, where they belonged, rather than here in this cold, heartless underground lair.

“I meant sorry for not showing you Earth,” Rodney continued. “I…I’ve been busy- I’ve told you that, several times. But I should have made the time.”

Teyla frowned. Apologetic, reflective Rodney was something to be wary of. It was a characteristic that only exerted itself whenever things were at their most dire, when they faced certain death, when there was no hope. These were the times when Rodney was completely unguarded, could show how much Atlantis and his friends and his team meant to him. It was something that frightened Teyla more than she would ever tell. But there was a sincerity in his eyes, a need for comfort to be taken from giving and having an apology accepted.

“Thank you,” Teyla said. “Perhaps we will be able to remedy this in the future.”
