Why This Must Be Read: Insta-rec. The summary explains it all: Giving a girl flowers had been so much easier on Earth.
It's sweet without going overboard with the fluff. Really surprisingly realistic. John's inner monologue is so amusing as he sets his sight on accomplishing a seemingly simple task, but even the easy stuff tends to get complicated in Atlantis. I think I also like this fic because for the first time ever, I managed to get a sense of personality from Katie Brown, Botanist.
It's short, simple and sweet. Go. Read.

“I hope you don't mind how much I'm enjoying helping you,” [Katie] said as they walked back down the aisle. Her smile was almost apologetic.
“Actually, I'm grateful for it,” he admitted honestly. “I'm not sure why you're so enthusiastic, though…”
Her slender shoulders lifted in a shrug. “It's a girl thing, I think. Being an accomplice on a scheme to give your secret girlfriend flowers? It's sneaky and romantic. I just can't resist that.” She hesitated, looking back at him. “I think it helps that it's for you, too. I mean, you're not exactly known as a romantic, so it's extra romantic, somehow.” She shrugged again, repeating, “It's a girl thing.”
