Why This Must Be Read: I don't follow SGA at all, but I absolutely adore Martha Wilson's AU Retrogade series. Her characterization is lush and loving, her plots are intense and tightly-woven, and she writes the best General Jack O'Neill ever. Nearly all the stories are gen, too - bonus! :)

Trading Day is told from Rodney McKay's frazzled POV.  The SGC and Atlantis have had a successful joint off-world mission to Terlarn, but when Jack, McKay, Teyla, Sheppard, and a new-to-Atlantis Ronon linger after others leave, and half the team gets drugged, and the local bigwig is trying to flimflam his way into a diplomatic marriage... well, only Jack's unflappable snark and Ronon's big gun stand in the way.

That, and Jack makes good pancakes.

"See if you can get the stove working."

Rodney gritted his teeth. "Why do you want to use the stove?"

O'Neill looked shocked. "What, you don't want coffee?"

"Those traders could come after us," Rodney yelled. "We need a plan!"

"Should I hit him?" Ronon asked O'Neill. "He's hysterical."

O'Neill opened another cabinet, frowning thoughtfully. "Does Sheppard let you?"

"No," Ronon admitted. "He does it himself."

Rummaging through the cabinet, apparently taking inventory of dishes and pots, O'Neill said, "Then we'll wait till he wakes up."

I don't do SGA, either, after they killed Beckett, I couldn't care anymore. But I was drawn in by Jack and pancakes. Loved Ronon quietly going shopping while scouting, Shepard and Teyla snuggled up together and Jack claiming to be the father. Funny, funny stuff. And I loved the little snatch you quoted above about Ronon wanting to hit Rodney, but admitting Shepard just usually does so himself. Nice little read.

I think my personal favorite bit is Ronon at the very end, holding out the plate. :)
