Why This Must Be Read:
tielanconsistently writes the best and most varied fic in the John/Teyla section of fandom. "The Barista" is one of my favorite of her chaptered fics and her crack!AUs. I love how she turns some fandom conventions on their heads with this fic and how, even in new environments, she manages to keep everyone in character. John's adorably lovestruck, Teyla's cool and confident, and their relationship is believable and of all the makings of a excellent love story. The other characters and their relationships are just as engaging. Even if you're not a John/Teyla shipper, "The Barista" is an AU that should be read.

From Part 3: The Purpose of Foofing
"No. Last time I tried to read anything, it was War and Peace."
Her eyes widened. "You have read War and Peace?"
"Started," he corrected. "Didn't get far."
Her lips twitched. "Tolstoy does not entertain me. Halling deplores my lack of literary knowledge."
So she wasn't much of a reader then? John asked the question that had more relevance to him. "Halling's your boyfriend?"
He thought he did well keeping his expression open and inquiring. Judging by Teyla's look, it wasn't quite as good as he'd hoped. "Just a friend," she said.
"Unlike you," said Ronon as he leaned down on the counter beside Teyla in a menacing pose. "Shove off."
Rather than shove off, John held his position and looked to Teyla. "And him?"
"I have better taste than that."
