Why This Must Be Read: If you're looking for a 'Sam and Jack get together and live happily ever after' story, you'll need to look somewhere else. If you're looking for a Sam and Jack that is messy and angsty and difficult, this fic is definitely for you. Nobody does angst quite like Annerb, and "Reality" is no exception. This is a Sam and Jack who love each other but don't have the first clue how to be in a relationship. It's heartbreaking and wonderful and real and so very Sam and Jack. An absolute must read.

What it is is real. I personally avoid any fic that make getting together them the goal. Seriously, that is never the hardest part in a relationship. I liked how the end was ambiguous. I never bought into the whole "meant to be". Thanks for rec'ing it, but I swear I read this before.

Excellent Rec. How did I miss this one? I really like the fics that aren't perfect. LIFE isn't perfect and their relationship certainly wouldn't be. I don't know which of them is more screwed up. I still consider this a SHIP fic and got way more enjoyment out of the reality of it than I do the "they all lived happily ever after" fics. And I am SO glad they don't have children as the goal of their relationship. Neither one of them is home enough for that.
