I don't normally do an admin this early in the month, especially after just putting up the first of the month post, but I have some news to share.
First off, I want to send out a very special 'thank you' to [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]. She has been a volunteer with us since the day I sent out the call for people to help me tag entries and put them into memories. She's been very reliable and dependable, offering to help fill in when others had to take time off. Sadly, she has asked for a reduced role due to personal reasons. Of course, I accepted, but it saddened me to do so. I just want to thank her for everything she's done for us, and am glad that she will step in as a backup should we need her.
On the other hand, I want to welcome [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] as a full time volunteer who will graciously step up to take [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s place. She's been a backup for us for a long time and has filled in more than once when we've needed an extra hand. She's going to start with us full time in August. I'm very pleased to have her step in.
This does bring us to the third aspect of this post. We are going to need more people to fill the backup role. I normally like to have about three people in this position, and right now I have two. I may be stretching it to a fourth position since I'm going to have to send out emails to the new volunteers anyway. But there are requirements:
First and foremost: Volunteers work directly with me. We have an open line of communication, sharing emails every other month, if not more often. We have to be able to keep in touch, meaning I'll need email addresses that you check often. I prefer to have responses within a day, maybe two, should a response be necessary. The emails are sent to all volunteers, as I like everyone to be informed. We work together, help each other. There is a chain of command and everyone is very comfortable with it. I like to think of us as a close group. Should full-time positions come open, I fill from the backups first. In the event that I'm not around, for whatever reason, the volunteers work directly with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com].
Secondly: A backup position works like this... If one of the full time volunteers needs time off for whatever reason, they will send an email to the backups. If you can fill the position, you respond to the email and the volunteer will choose from those who respond. Normally, it's first come/first served, but we do like to spread it out amongst everyone. The term for backing up is set and then the volunteer informs me. That's when I'll add access, but only for the time period discussed. If an extension is needed, I'll need another email. Also, I do expect that if there are any questions, they'll be asked in an email to all the volunteers, so you'll receive everyone's email addresses as well. (Please do not give these out. I mean, I know that should go without saying, but I should still say it.)
If you would like to put your name in to be a possible back up, please send me an email at (angelsgracie @ livejournal . com). Give me your name, username, and the email address you'll want to use. I already have two backups, so I'm looking for one or two more. [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and I will go through the 'applications' (so to speak) and well get back with you and let you know. We'll need all the 'applications' by Saturday night.
Any questions, just drop a comment here and I'll be happy to answer them! If you'd like to thank [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] for all her help, that would be great; and if you want to welcome [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] to the group of volunteers, well that would be great too! Just leave comments here! :)
And thank you all in advance.
