Why This Must Be Read:
This is a sweet and funny little fic that I just absolutely love. From Jack gleefully messing with Jonas' seemingly endless supply of pencils to the easy going banter between teammates who have saved the world so many times that it almost seems routine.
The team is stuck offworld and are again facing certain doom. Sam is taking a moment; a break from the pressure of always being the one to solve the unsolvable problem. The heart of the fic is her wry observation of Jack's supposed 'everyman' average intelligence level, and his awww shucks reaction to her jibes is wonderfully done.
A Teeny Extract
"Still doing that 'not thinking' thing, are we, Carter?"
"Nice try, sir, but flattery will get you nowhere."
Hmm. Antagonizing her didn't work as well as it used to. Next option. Ah! Redirection. "Aren't you supposed to be saving the day, not mocking your superiors?"
Sam just held him with that steady gaze, one eyebrow arching slightly. She was obviously spending too much time around Teal'c. Picking up bad habits. Okay, Jack thought, time to review. Antagonism, no go. Redirection, unsuccessful.
Obviously, there was no recourse other than a direct challenge.
"Prove it."
