Why This Must Be Read: It's difficult to talk about this fic without spoiling the wonderful intro. The story starts with a (non-explicit) liaison between John and Jeannie. It's years later when John tries to look her up that he meets her brother Rodney, and they discover that they have a common interest. Though John is still in the Air Force and Rodney is still a scientist at the SGC, their life circumstances are changed from canon. Rodney is still very Rodney, though, and loads of fun to watch even at this much different angle. They build their friendship over e-mail, and I won't say much more, other than that the story spans drama, bucketloads of cuteness, and love, without being sappy. Seriously -- loads of warm fuzzies.

John slumped back in his chair, rubbing his thumb over the corner of his mouth. He'd been so screwed up lately, it almost felt weird to feel good about something. The order to leave his men behind, the one he'd disobeyed, the friends he'd lost... he felt small and fucking guilty about it, but he'd almost been looking forward to getting to McMurdo, if only so it would finally sink in: they were through with him, he was done. Pretty soon he wouldn't have to care any more, about anything.
"I don't even remember now why I decided to look up Jeannie," he told McKay. "But I'm glad I did."
