ADMIN: Half-way Point

We're now actually beyond the half-way point. In an attempt to head off an end-of-the-month rush of posts, I would like to give everyone a bit of a heads up. We have about 11 categories that are supposed to have rec'cers, but no posts for them yet. If those 11 rec'cers wait until the end of the month, that will be hitting the comm with at least 44 posts...

That's a lot!

So please, if you haven't put up even one rec for the category you've volunteered for, then do at least one or two as soon as possible and then save the other two for the end of the month. I really don't want the volunteers to be overwhelmed with entries to tag and put into memories, and I think most people would rather their flists not be flooded with entries. *g* I'm just a bit concerned because there are so many categories that have rec'cers but NO recs for the month, and September is half over!

Since I don't read enough to rec and since I have no time in RL to volunteer, I don't know if I should stick my nose in on this but since this seems to happen every month, to a greater or lesser extent, I was wondering...

Have you considered staggering the cycles? Maybe having the reccers on a Day 1 to Day 31 cycle and the taggers on a Day 15- Day 14 cycle. Then if the reccers did their usual thing and waited til the last minute to post, the taggers would still have two weeks to work on their assignment. It probably wouldn't be that much harder to administrate, and in some ways might be easier because the administrator could spead their work over the month instead of having to do it in one big chunk.

Obviously that doesn't solve the problem of flooded friends lists, but it might take some of the other pressures off.

Anyway, just a thought from a professional secretary.

If it helps to motivate any of our rec'ers, as a reader I tend to read stories that match my interests when they're posted one or two at a time. I suspect I've missed a lot of excellent stories because there's an onslaught at the end of the month and they simply disappear from my f-list before I have a chance to work my way through them. :( So, rec'ing 4 stories on the last day means I'm lucky to read one.

Luckily, as a tagger, I am "forced" to go through the recs individually. I've found a lot of excellent stories as a result but I know I'd miss many if it weren't for that.

I've been loving all of the gen recs for Daniel and team-y goodness this month. :) I haven't had a chance to read as many as I'd like (I'm currently out of town on vacation) but you can bet I've earmarked them for reading ASAP.

Thanks for all of your - and the other admins' - hard work to make this work.

I try to do one a week when I'm a reccer so I'm on track(ish) if I do my second very, very fast ::g:: Will try and put it up today.

I used to do one per category per week. Then I kinda went into system overload and indulged in an absolute orgy of fic reccing, which hopefully nobody minds too much. :)

I'm glad you're enjoying the recs! I wanted to finish the Daniel ones before moving onto gen, even though there are a couple more teamy goodness ones that I want to sneak in, too. But I'm wandering off-line till next month before the end of the week, so I'll be graciously sparing space for everyone else who wants to rec. ;)

Shoulda known better than to take more than one category the month that I'm actually reccing Daniel. Silly me.

I tend to pay attention to just slash but that's a silly habit because I love well-written gen, especially when it's team-y or Daniel-centric, just as much. (Actually, I love well-written het, too, but my own pairing tastes tend to leave me with fewer pickings.)

I'm enjoying not only the wealth of options but that you're also taking the time to write thorough recs. It isn't the easiest skill, enticing without spoiling, and I am always happy to see one of your enties pop up on my f-list. :) Now, if I can just get home and make the time to read the stories...

Actually, doing a weekly post is ideal! That's what I strive to have everyone do. So I'm happy to hear that's your plan for doing it. :)

It really is a labor of love. I'm very glad that I don't have to do it all on my own though. Back in those days, it was pretty difficult. So it's having all the volunteers that allows me to do the things I do now. I really just used to set up rec'cers and then was so overwhelmed by everything else, I wouldn't do anything. Now, now I get to do so much more and I love it!

The biggest thing about this isn't so much the tagging, it's getting the stories into memories so that the rec'cers for next month can have a listing of what's been rec'ced in the past, and therefore avoiding duplicate recs. There's really no timeframe for tagging.

The ideal situation would be if people just did one rec a week. *g*

Side note: You're a professional secretary? So was I! That's interesting! I only did it for about six years though.
