Because apparently even an apocalypse can't shake Cameron's fundamental optimism. Much.
Actually, this fic is one of the major reasons I wanted to rec for this category. It's so many different kinds of good - a bleak and gritty AU sketched in a handful of lines, characters who are both utterly themselves and plausibly shaped by their altered circumstances, powerful pared-down bare-bones prose, distrust and wary connections and unexpected hope:
They meet inside the walls of a burned-out building in a blackout zone. It's past curfew, and Cameron's taking a risk. Unlike the Jaffa traitor, he doesn't have armour he can retreat behind.
