Why This Must Be Read: An AU of The First Ones as slashy high comedy... and yes, it works a treat.
I admit, some of Biblio's characterisation in all her stories makes me a touch squint-eyed: in particular, her version of Daniel tends to be sweeter and more ingenuous than I can see - but I can forgive a lot of an author who makes me really laugh, and her comic timing and gift for dialogue is fantastic. And I love love love her deadpan, snarky, single-minded and unabashedly stuffy Robert Rothman and his friendship with Daniel (I also love love love her Jack's reaction to Robert, which... well, you can guess how friendly that isn't :)
When my vision clears, I see that both the boys are back in town, already arguing over who had the most fascinating cultural encounter.Daniel has the cachet of an impressively animalistic kidnap but Rothman tries to edge ahead on points with a vivid description of the horror of being a helpless prisoner in his own body while Teal'c rendered first aid. Daniel's participation in a primordial rite of passage pales into insignificance before the bald spots where Rothman's beard used to be before I duct-taped him.
