Why This Must Be Read: This honestly has to be one of the best fic series I have read period. It's painful and beautiful and interesting. It is full of rich characterization, interesting worldbuilding, and slight, slight changes to canon that cause rolling hills of intrigue. The liguistics element is a particular treat, and there are minor characters who barely even appear in the show that you will come to care for in Daniel of Abydos. Heavens know it was rec'd often enough on the old livejournal that I eventually could not be stopped from reading it, and nor should you. If you are not generally a fan of "kidfic", make an exception to try this out. It is unlike anything else. A gen epic that I think of often.

But this is a rec for Robert Rothman. This fic, of anything at all, made me fall completely in love with the character of Robert Rothman. His relationship with Daniel is interesting and unique. His place in the world and the SGC is rock solid. He's funny and odd and interesting, pulling the young Daniel in the direction of a civilian academic life rather than towards the military.

Mind the content warnings. This is not a fix-it fic even when sometimes things change.
