Why This Must Be Read: vain_glorious has written a number of interesting and somewhat dark SGA stories, and this one is a complex, angsty tale of John getting a head injury on a mission and waking up in an alternate universe where his alter ego has been happily married to Teyla for some time. He and Teyla have to negotiate this disaster, her own alt-John having disappeared when he arrived, so eventually she's grieving for him. But initially the assumption (of course) by Teyla and everyone except John is that the head injury's affected his memory and personality, not that he's an intruder from an alternate reality. He thus seems to be rejecting Teyla and not to be in his right mind. The kicker is that the reality he's fallen into is in many ways better than his original one, and alt-John was happier and less damaged. But can John let well enough alone, leaving alt-John, Teyla's real husband, god knows where? I bet you can guess the answer to that. Complex, great character studies of both John and Teyla, and very well written.

Rather than a snippet, see the excellent rec notes by asugar who wrote a far better rec than I could ever manage, back in 2009. The AO3 story link above is the best one to use, however.
