Why This Must Be Read: For a category such as this, focusing on stories set off-world, imo it's pretty much essential that recs include at least one story by the incomparable quercus. In all quercus' off-world stories the world-building is superb, so very elegant, while also being so delicately understated as to keep our SG-1 characters firmly in the forefront. This particular story is no exception, but is notable for far more than the above: In 'For G', co-existing isolation and belonging, loss and love, and hopelessness and hope come wrapped in a somber yet wistful - and ultimately rewarding - story of redemption. Jack, with Skaara, searching for a missing Daniel or, if not that, then maybe just for a way to go on.
