Why This Must Be Read: Author's summary: Daniel gets whupped-upon (again) and has to wonder if it's worth it.

I first read this story about 15 years ago, have read it often since then, and to this day its impact is still felt. Daniel is assaulted while jogging alone in a wooded area, and cannot bring himself to admit, to anyone, what has happened to him. This story, in it's plainspoken narrative, is the powerfully empathetic depiction not only of his post-traumatic turmoil and progress toward the road to recovery, but also of friendship and support. The story is straightforwardly told, events moving forward at a steady clip, and both Daniel and Jack are beautifully written. I'm pretty sure it has been recc'd before, but likely ages and ages ago, so imo it's past time to bring it back 'front and centre'.
