Why This Must Be Read: Janus is a pain in the ass, and John wanted to punch him. An accident in one of Janus's labs sends John and Rodney back in time to 3 months before the expedition left. They use their foreknowledge to make plans that will ensure a greater chance of success for the mission. During that time they make new alliances between the scientists and military, add more -- and more competent -- personnel to the expedition rolls (scientists as well as military and medical), and make extensive increases to the food and supplies they'll take with them. During all that, John and Rodney finally admit that they attracted to each other, as well as (eventually) cutting the two most problematic members from the expedition. This is the way the expedition should have been handled, by competent people who knew what they were doing. 50,900 words.
