Short but not sweet, fully canonical, and very Daniel indeed.


Every time he gets close to another human being, he can't help but feel the echoes of an eight year old's pain and denial, listening in incomprehension as some stranger or other tried to tell him that his parents had "gone away" without him.

They were only the first in a long line of people to leave him, but he's never quite managed to forgive them for it.

Why This Must Be Read: In this story neither Rodney nor John are vampires, but they and others from the expedition are in danger from Earth-type vampires while completing contracted work for the Travelers on Larrin's ship. There's lots of action/adventure and strange goings-on. Larrin, as usual, isn't entirely honest with the Lanteans, and there's spookiness and some horror, and things going bump in the night. In the course of the drama John briefly hooks up with Larrin which he regrets immediately, but it makes Rodney jealous, so he and John finally act on their feelings and get together. An interesting story about non-Wraith vampires in Pegasus, and an excellent read.
