Why This Must Be Read: The SGC has discovered Atlantis - only to realize it's inhabited by mermaids! This is set in a universe where mermaids are an accepted, albeit mistreated species of Earth. So the SGC procures a mermaid for Rodney to study, based on the idea that mermaids have the ATA gene, so that communication (via ancient tech) may become possible. The bond that forms between John and Rodney is slow, as John is understandably distrustful of humans. But it's also sweet, and supportive. Ronon has a very interesting role to play, and I love the happy ending!
