Why This Must Be Read: In this engagingly-written story, first contact with an off-world culture takes a left turn for the worse - as happens in many an SG-1 adventure - with our intrepid explorers first falling into then having to fumble their way out of danger. There's something here for everyone: advanced tech for Sam, a new culture and its history for Daniel, an evil overlord for Jack and Teal'c, an ethical complication to deal with for the whole team, and plenty of action and drama for the readers.
I really like the smooth, easy-to-read yet rich writing style of this author, and with this story in particular I love the great in-character dialogue and interplay of seriousness and wry humour. And one other reason I like this story so much is ... 'scrumpled'. The author uses the word 'scrumpled' in just the right way at just the right time producing just the right mental image, and I love it!
