Why This Must Be Read: Welcome to an Earth where magic exists. Where some people are born with powers that suddenly manifest in a time when the person is feeling especially emotional. Where even the suspicion of having magic is subject of the death penalty, regardless of intent. Rodney McKay, genius astrophysicst and the Head of the Science Department in Atlantis, is a wizard, capable of making the earth move when he's angry.

This story is beautifully-written and feels entirely true to the show. Rodney is still very much Rodney even with the added magic. But what I truly love about this story is that it's not really about Atlantis, nor is it a love story between Rodney and John - both of those are almost more like background noise. At its core this story is about prejudice and social injustice. About living with fear and being unable to trust anyone with who you truly are, because even your best friend, your family could turn on you in the blink of an eye. And it's about fighting to overcome that prejudice and injustice.
