Why This Must Be Read: This is one of my absolute favorite Sid fics. It starts with Jack finally admitting his feelings to Daniel only to find out: Oops! Daniel's already seeing someone. It's a great exploration of friendship and love and how to deal with what life throws at you. Sid created a truly wonderful original character, Bjorn, who is there as a character in his own right, and as a partner for Daniel, and not just as a writing device to make Daniel 'see the light.'

This is a long fic (about 18K words), running parallel around mid-series. It is wonderfully paced and never rushed. It does cover Meridian, and you will cry. But it has a happy ending, and I think Sid did all the characters justice by the end of the story.

Why This Must Be Read:
For this rec I interpreted the term "team" in a broader sense: while Atlantis' flagship-team is represented very well, the story places emphasis on showing Atlantis as one big team conspiring against Earth policy.

When Earth policy wants Atlantis to increase efficiency by withdrawing from their involvement in Pegasus-affairs, cutting back on helping people, and is turning the daily life on Atlantis into a bureaucratic nightmare, Atlantis decides to reinterpret those orders in their very own way.
I love how they all work and stick together to overcome the obstacles Earth puts up. They try to skirt the new regulations in order to keep going and fight an imminent danger to the entire Pegasus galaxy including Atlantis.
But don't expect a story heavy on the action, the main lure of this one lies in the less tangible threats.
A quote from the author, taken from the in-depth Q&A on the story on her website, shows those aspects very well:
"... plenty of danger of the less tangible kind (the threat of the alternate future repeating itself, the threat of the IOA screwing everything up, the threat of the Team being separated, the threat of it all, at some point in the future, meaning something dire for Pegasus because their superiors just wouldn't listen, instead having them fill out form after endless form after endless form as all order and good sense crumbled around their ears) >...< Lantean breakaway became quiet conspiracy ..."
The story goes AU-ish by the time of "Search and Rescue" and was written for the SGA Big Bang 2008 so you can view the beautiful artwork as well.
