The Authors note say that this story was directly inspired by lavvyan’s Jaffa_for_hire AU wherein John Sheppard is host to Mer'deth, a brilliant, arrogant, and not-entirely fearsome Goa'uld.

Mer'deth is a goa’uld who only want to learn, he has a thirst for knowledge. During a mission Mer'deth merges with John who is not overly happy about the situation and wants Mer'deth out.

I love this story not only is it one where a Goa’uld is a good guy but how close the host can become to their symbiote. In this the SGC especially SG1 are not so friendly.
