Why this must be read:
The story is slow building and the author possess a wonderful ability to write tightly woven stories. This is about mostly Young and Rush, how they deal with loneliness, with the problems of Destiny, and especially with the cold. The story is ongoing. All of the characters are IC, and one cares deeply for them. I'd recommend that you check out ALL of Elaiel's stories, even the bad crack fics, because even at that level, her writing skills and talents are so evident. She is able to hold your interest, not wasting any words on frilly stuff. But back to the story, you want to know how these two men subtly ask each other for help, how they seem to understand the needs of each other without having to be asked because they themselves feel it keenly. I will read anything by this author!

Why this must be read:
This for Chloe and Rush shippers. Despite the age differences, this is one of the best writing regarding these two. Yes, there's graphic sex scene, but it's one of the rare few where the scenes aren't just for smut but actually part of the story plot. The story is of trying to maintain decorum in an awkward situation, of trying to ignore desire, of trying to be proper and unable to resist the strong urge to connect with each other. Elaiel's talent to write scenes like this without making it so trivial and silly is outstanding. Few authors can write this realistically without one rolling their eyes. I recommend that you read ALL of her stories, found on her page. This is truly one of the best authors to come across in a long time. She is also registered on Fanfiction.net under the same moniker.

The description 'sprawling epic' seems tailor-made for this series. Although these are ensemble pieces, Jehan abd-Ba'al and Meredith McKay's story is a major component throughout. Each character's backstory has changed from canon at a crucial point to bring them all together in Atlantis after action-packed journeys through Pegasus. No excerpt for this one - I just couldn't choose.

Why this must be read:
This is a short drabble under 1000 words. Regardless of the short length, it's one of the most powerful stream of consciousness writing that I've come across. It deal with the seven times that Colonel Young and Nicholas Rush exchanged a non-sexual touch, from when they shook hands to say goodbye when they thought they were going to die in the sun, to the various of times in between. The emotional range is described in very lyrical and hyper-aware sensitivity of touch. Whether it was in comaraderie, explosive anger, a reaching out to help. It perfectly describe their rocky relationship with each other. But the last one haunts me the most, where they meet for the very first time on Icarus Base, unaware of what's in store for their future. Well written, and spot on.
