Why this must be read:
This powerful look at those left behind sparked my interest in doing the angst category again back in August of 2010. In 430 words, James impressively explores the desperate hope that family members of MIA servicemen hold onto. Aiden Ford's grandmother, even though she knows deep down that her grandson is gone, holds out the hope that if the military doesn't expressly tell her that Aiden is dead and brings her a flag, that he still lives out there somewhere. By the time you reach that last line, I guarantee that your heart will be squeezed for Grandma and your eyes will have a slightly misty feeling. Enjoy the beauty that is James' very emotional writing.
Story Summary: Until that Marine shows up on their doorstep, solemn and dress uniform, then she knows he's fine.
