Why this must be read:
It´s interesting that many Rodney&Ronon friendship fics are from Ronon´s POV. "Know Thyself for What Thou Art" is another one with a great Ronon voice – great voices for everyone, really.
In this tag for "Broken Ties" Rodney reminds a deeply ashamed Ronon of Rodney´s own experience with an enzyme overdose. I love how their friendship helps them both deal with what happened to them.

Why this must be read: It's no secret that Velocitygrass writes some of my favorite SGA fic, and this fic is no exception. Rodney, in an attempt to exempt himself from Christmas cheer, presents John with what he believes to be an impossible Christmas wish list. John, desperate to engage Rodney in the spirt of the season, and to employ him as an angel in the Atlantis Christmas pageant, doesn't seem to believe in the impossible. In the end, the boys get together and Rodney gets his wings. Merry Christmas to all of my fellow Stargate fans, it's been a pleasure reccing for you this holiday season!

A few minor reader's warnings first: This is an unadvertised AU, in that Elizabeth is in charge but season four events are referenced (and it's not clear which version of Carson is around). Zelenka is spelled "Zalenka", and the author uses scare quotes rather than italics for emphasis, which normally drives me insane. Despite those minor factors, I found this a deeply engaging story. Jeannie has sent a piano to Atlantis, knowing better than to make it an overt gift to Rodney but hoping he will rediscover the music she remembers him once loving. He ignores it until the expedition discovers that Atlantis has an unexpected response to music within a particular room. This story highlights the careful precision and tedious experimentation demanded by science and the tension those cause with Rodney's own impatience. The snarking between Rodney and John as well as between Rodney and Radek is entertaining (and at one point touching), and the author doesn't forget that so many years away from the piano would limit Rodney's immediate selections — to ultimately powerful effect.
