Why this must be read:

'Cause this is a deep fic, folks! It's a very well-done examination of loss, healing, and the love that develops between two very different individuals who have experienced the same shattering experience. The Earth is destroyed with one lone ship of survivors making it to Atlantis. On this ship is one Daniel Jackson, a severely damaged man. It takes someone who has also experienced the utter devastation of this kind of event, and somewhat dealt with this loss, to pull him back from the brink, giving him another reason to live; enter Ronon Dex. I just love the sheer emotion that WritinginCT has given us in this fic. The reader can literally feel every word, period, and sentence. Go cry, enjoy, and love!

Story Summary: Earth is destroyed and a lone ship full of survivors makes it to Atlantis. A guilt-ridden and emotionally spent Daniel is able to find comfort and healing in someone that knows the pain of his loss intimately.

Summary: People make bad choices all the time. That isn't Rodney's fault. (3k words)

Rodney is thoroughly a civilian, but he's a member of a first-contact gate team and he has learned to use the firearms he carries. This story builds a scenario in which Rodney must kill someone to save John, and it interweaves his reactions to that moment with a study of how he has approached his life and relationships. This Rodney scorns what he cannot master, only to find that approach does not always serve him well. I particularly like his recognition of the ways in which John tries to manipulate him and his own consciously selfish refusal to play along.

Why This Must Be Read: I've recently discovered this author, and am having difficulty not just reccing EVERYTHING she's ever written. In this fic, Elizabeth ends up experiencing every single one of John's life experiences and feelings through an alien "Circle of Truth," and the fallout leaves both John and Elizabeth dealing with denial and awkwardness and avoidance. The voices are pitch-perfect, and I especially love how John retreats and avoids - because he so would - and how Elizabeth wants to give him respectful distance, but the line of privacy has been crossed, and they have to deal with it. And I love how it's ultimately resolved.

The Wraith are literal monsters, but they hunt humans to survive; some of the truest evil is found in other humans. Here, Ronon has been stolen away and brutalized by horrific captors who play to the worst impulses of humanity, and Teyla is determined to bring him home. This story does a great job of showing differing aspects of Pegasus cultures through the eyes of a Teyla who is far more complex and impassioned than the commonly portrayed "team mom".
