Why This Must Be Read: "When" was one of the first stories I read when I got into the SGA fandom and it's still one of my favorites even today. It's part of a series that can be found on the author's website, starting with Pavilion's of Hadrius and going up, but you don't need to read the previous stories to understand what is going on in this one. John and Rodney find themselves kidnapped by an unusual group of people, who are using John as a hostage to get Rodney to do their bidding. Wonderful John and Rodney friendship, wonderful role refusal with John as the one helpless and Rodney as the one who has to save the day, and wonderful, colorful bad guys of the kind you just love to hate.
