Why This Must Be Read: In over four years and nearly 600 recs, this is my second Sam/Jack fic rec ever. That should tell you something. :)

In this fabulous AU rewrite of COTG, Sam and Jack are already involved before the story begins. (There are two backstories in this series, both linked at the master post for the fic, which I did not read and are not necessary to enjoy Falling Back to Earth.) What follows is a painfully honest exploration of Jack's struggle to reconcile the regs and Hammond's orders (“ I hereby order you both to cease and desist your personal relationship from this moment forward.”) with his very human reactions and Jack's second-guessing of the choices he makes on the mission, and the twists and turns that happen when Sam is left behind in the Abydos Gate room when Apophis comes calling.

You will love the Jack-voice here. You will love this for Kawalsky, for Sha're, for Daniel. But most of all, you will love this for Sam - wonderfully competent determined Sam, who bonds so fiercely with Teal'c and never, ever stops fighting. By the end of the fic, the formation of SG-1 and SG-2 are delightfully altered, and you'll join me in hoping that Annerb continues to write in this fascinating AU.

If you're a Sam/Jack fan, go read this. And if you're not a Sam/Jack fan, go read this anyway. I most certainly am not, and I loved it!

Why this must be read: This story isn't meant to be taken seriously, but it's still awesomely funny. Basically, Sam and Janet go out for a night out on the town with an old friend... long story short, an unknown substance is taken, and suddenly every male in town happens to fall in love with Sam. Including her dear friends, Daniel and Teal'c. :D. Leaving Jack, of course, (granted... a decidedly grumpy Jack), to the rescue.

Why this must be read: Seven parts to this. I recommend clearing up a lazy morning to read this... because you won't be able to stop. This is certainly one of the Stargate fics I admire the most, and very little of it has to do with the pairing. The way the author captures you and drags you into his/her world and into the psychology and inner torment of Sam's oldest child is incredibly daunting, yet completely gripping. This is a 'what-if' story in which Offworlder explores the idea that "the Ancient knowledge could be passed down genetically like the Goa'uld". Sam and Jack must face the consequences of a decision to condemn and put the weight of the Ancient's on the shoulders of a child, based from the 'Lost City' ep. At times this was difficult to read due to the dangers surrounding young children, but in a way it only serves to make this story that much more powerful. The only thing I would wish for is more 'in-between' moments with Sam and Jack. Otherwise, a complete privilege to read.

I love stories with clever word play and puns and double-entendres, and this story is chock-full of whump-the-Sheppard (and giggle at the team) fun. The illustrations (and the descriptions of illustrations) are a bonus, and don't forget to read the ideas for extension activities at the end!
