Why this must be read: The author takes an underdeveloped minor character and gives her a backstory and a voice. This story feels very genuine and the Miko POV is fascinating.
Summary: Miko Kusanagi, despite several large pieces of evidence to the contrary, had been born in America; she wore the American flag patch on her shoulder, and not the staring red dot of her Japanese heritage (~4,500)

Why this must be read: Five times Jack O'Neill asked Samantha Carter out, and one time he didn't have to. Lots of really wonderful but not too sugary sweet fluff. I love how the author wrote 5/6 of these in alternate canon universes, giving us great glimpses of all the other Sams and Jacks out there. So. Damn. Cute.

Why this must be read: Seven ways Jack (mostly/kind of) said goodbye. This is not your typical five things fic as it's really a seven things fic and it's longer than usual, but in my professional reccer opinion, it still fits in this category. These stories are just too awesome, and can cause emotional responses ranging from hysterical laughter to tearful smiles. This is classic SG-1 gen fic at its best, especially #6, In Which Various People Snipe, Lie, and Debate the Meaning of Life. Gotta love those titles.

So General Jack O'Neill stood before them all -- the people he knew and the people he didn't, the people he'd saved and the people who'd saved him, the people who didn't like him and, most especially, the people he loved -- and he said hello.

Why this must be read: Because it's a drunken adult boy's birthday party with a threesome surprise, but told from the perspective of the fuzzy brained hungover aftermath. Short, sweet and good plain fun, this is the McKay/Sheppard/Beckett fic I turn to when I'm looking for a giggle. I only wish I had friends who would throw me this kind of birthday party, but until then this fic is an entirely worthy second best!

Why This Must Be Read: I love the structure of this ficlet, as Jack struggles throughout S6 with the Daniel-shaped hole in his life that he faces over and over again. Whether it's the habit of his footsteps or his speed-dial, the rhythms and patterns of Jack's days always seem to include Daniel somewhere, somehow... until that moment when it finally gets to be real again.

Poignant, pointed, powerful. An excellent short read!


"Teal'c, take point. Carter, take the rear." The pause is fractional, goes unnoticed, as Jack doesn't say the wrong name. "Jonas, you're with me. Let's go, kids."
