Why This Must Be Read: Yeah, that's really the author's summary/title and isn't it a great one? Hooked me right in. Even if this fic was not such an delightfully fluffy and well-written exemplar of the "John takes Teyla for a vacation on Earth" genre, it would be well worth reading because not only does John take Teyla to a flight show (people, there's John AND PLANES!), but he FLIES! AN OSPREY! Which, if you don't know, are awesome, fold up like a Transformer and no longer kill people. This short story, one of my favorites, is quite old but curiously unknown. It'd be hard for me to choose what I like more here: the excellent characterization of John, especially his little boy glee around all those big boy toys (offset perfectly by Teyla's warm amusement), how he is bolstered by Teyla's gentle support and steadiness, her insight into John after watching him fly, the powerful sexiness of his skill and competency to Teyla, the airshow attendees, the reader....

If you avoid anything John/Teyla or not gen, you will still enjoy this very much as the ship is very subtle. The author chooses to focus more on their friendship and how the brief visit changes Teyla's perceptions of John and his world. There's a lovely delicacy to the author's exploration of how much powerful an impact Earth in person, even just the food, makes on Teyla after all John's fumbling explanations. Plus, in case I haven't been clear enough, as the author promises, John + Planes + Pilots does indeed = Hot.
