Why This Must Be Read: I was pleasantly surprised in the last month by two writers I've never read before, showing up with beautifully written Jack/Daniel fics. After twelve years the fandom is still going strong!

The first is a wonderfully detailed description of Daniel only just realizing how fluent he's become in "Jack." It's a detailed portrait of how extensive experience and attention to body language suddenly reveals itself consciously to Daniel as an ability to read Jack like no one else can. And then he begins to notice more of Jack's unspoken messages .... It's a happy-making celebration of the almost psychic connection between Jack and Daniel we see onscreen.

Why This Must Be Read: This story does a beautiful job of painting a portrait of Jack in Washington, suddenly realizing he's old and alone. All these years, he's figured he had time, and has put off telling Daniel his feelings. The description of Jack feeling his age, and of the place he's silently left for Daniel to fill, is expertly drawn. It's a moody, angsty story with an ambiguous ending that I can't help but feel is hopeful.

Why This Must Be Read: For my last Jack/Daniel recs this month, I wanted to share two newer fics from old favorite writers.

The IOA is shutting down the program, and everyone has gathered for one last ceremony in the gateroom. Can it really be the end for the heroes of SG-1? Will they really allow Earth to be completely cut off from the galaxy? Rather Say Farewell is a marvelously funny, team-y fic. In fact, the SGC as a whole pulls behind our team in a way that makes you want to cheer. Vala is hilariously Vala, Sam is smart, Daniel is loquacious, and Jack is blithe and goofy, until he proves to have a brain behind his bluff. And Jack/Daniel fans get a happy ending.

Why This Must Be Read: Absolutely hilarious fic about Jack trapped at Felger's stag party with the SG-1 geeks and really crappy porn. Fortunately Daniel is with him, and they can sneak away for some secret, scorching hot action. The science squad doesn't often get portrayed in fic, and Komos has a lot of fun with them. (Jack and Daniel have more fun without them. ;-)
