Because it's got pitch-perfect Teal'c dialog, and because it does a great job of showing Teal'c coming to understand what it costs him to get through his days. And because it shows us Cameron refracted through that same glass, so that what we learn about Cam is so entirely Teal'c it will make you love them both just a little bit more.

Why This Must Be Read:

To own my biases: I am not easily convinced by Sam/Jack fic. This fic convinces me. Oh man, it convinces me.

The sequel to Resolution and Salvage, it picks up at a point where the evidence of a one-time sexual encounter has led to Jack's retirement and Sam's resignation of her commission to work as a civilian consultant, in the wake of which which they're struggling to make a relationship work. And then Jacob Carter comes by with a mission ...

This is a big fic full of good things: an excellent (and often incredibly funny) Jack POV, action-adventure, understated hurt-comfort, a plausibly bleak sense of galactic politics, and a credible look at two people who love each other but have to work realistically hard to overcome the problems between them.

And as an added bonus, there's nandamai's truly awesome Jacob.
