Why This Must Be Read: A frustrating day-in-the-life of Jack, leading a group of survivors in hiding, eight years after Baal's fleet took over Earth. Some days it's hard to deal with having had their future taken from them, with living with what passes for normal, now.

Why This Must Be Read: A "public disclosure" dystopia -- if the Asgard hadn't come in Lost City, and Anubis had attacked Earth's cities, and Kinsey had been able to step into the power vacuum left in the wake of the damage to Earth. This is a frightening look at what an ideologue like Kinsey could do against Daniel's best intentions, and the blowback that would send the members of SG-1 fleeing into hiding. Five years later, Jack is still looking for Daniel.

Of Belonging to Another

Why This Must Be Read: The women of Stargate have always had incredible potential for storytelling. TPTB have sadly fallen short of that potential, which is one of the reasons why we have fanfic! And in this amazing story, Isabelle brings Sam, Vala, and Sarah Gardener together – a meeting of the Ex-Hosts Club – for conversation, understanding, and possibly even some solace.

Vala discovers, from her illicit reading of the files, that the host of Osiris – who she had met when she still played host to Qetesh – is alive, and at least techically well, on Earth. Daniel flatly refuses to even consider the idea of allowing them to meet, but Sam sees things differently. She has her own, less wrenching (perhaps) experience as a former host, and understands the need that drives Vala to seek out Sarah and talk to her.

There are some painfully honest conversations, and some incredible Sam self-analysis, and a Vala who is actually someone I might grow to like, unlike the one I usually see on the screen. There's pain, and determination, and the desperation for survival… and, as Sam muses, the hope that there might be something beyond that, too, someday.

This is the story we never get on the show: picking up the pieces of a shattered life. And it's well worth reading.
