Why This Must Be Read: First of all I would urge everyone to take the author’s warnings seriously. This is not a happy fic. It is, however, an incredibly well-written and powerful portrayal of Carson that seems all too plausible. This man is not the one we see in the show, but it could easily be the one just out of sight, hiding behind the charming smiles and twinkling eyes. The fic is like an antithesis of everything that appeals to me in McKay/Beckett pairing, which may not sound like a recommendation, but it totally is. Because lillyjk makes me believe it. The fact that she does it while reducing me into a puddle of quivering goo, helps a lot. There is a sequel Damage, which is equally disturbing and hot, but ends in a slightly more hopeful note.

Why This Must Be Read: This fic awes me with its unique approach to the vagaries of time travel and the butterfly effect. Even its tenses and style seem an admission of just how confusing alternate universes can be.

Once Upon a Time in Egypt explains how Sam's death in Egypt of 3000 B.C. and the failed rebellion caused sufficient ripples throughout the centuries to keep Sam out of the Air Force. Lovingly and elegantly, LJ traces fault-lines and what-might-have-beens throughout history, bringing us to a crucial moment in Sam's life and offering what the Carters would surely consider a preferable result. And yet – and yet…

And then it all spools back into place again.

Read this fic thoughtfully, and carefully. It's not your regular fanfic, and that's what makes it so special.

Why This Must Be Read: Sorry this is a drive by recommendation but you can be assured that anything by Travelling One is well worth the read. In this story the team is trapped in a society that starts to experiment on them, starting with Daniel first. The hurt/comfort is palatable and well written. There’s an extra layer of problems with Hammond not at the helm at the SGC thus leading to issues regarding any rescue of the trapped team members of SG1. The answers are surprising at the end. This story is doesn’t disappoint and is a perfect Jack and Daniel friendship piece with a strong team theme as well.
