Why This Must Be Read:

This fic was written as a remix challenge of another story, "Bedside Vigil" by Hathor, but you don't have to read the original tale to get engrossed in this one. (In fact, I read them in reverse order–and recommend them both, heh, two recs for one!).

Minxy instantly transports you to the familiar halls of the SGC from a little heard from perspective, Janet Fraiser's. Her character's voice is clear and strong. The physical movements and sounds minxy describe in such detail both echo and counter the multitude of thoughts in Janet's head. At first it is unclear from minxy's tale who is injured (obviously an SG-1 member–as well as SG-3), but for Janet, it doesn't really matter. She'll do everything she can to help.

Particularly moving is the routine procedure of putting on/taking off surgical gloves. Somehow minxy has injected emotion in this basic act. It encapsulates the story and the character profoundly.

In short "Bedside Manners" is a lovely tale and an interesting character study of Janet, both as professional and person. Definitely a must read for anyone who loves great writing, genfic, or Janet.

Why This Must Be Read: Because it is everything a great fanfic should be. Beautiful, moving, perfectly in character, and the story haunts you both in good ways and bad long after you read it. I love the simplicity of this story, and how it ends up being all the more profound because of it. Rich with great details and key moments, this story just feels so achingly true to the characters and their relationship together. This story is why I love reading S/W fanfic so much!

Why This Must Be Read: Melyanna has a gift for Alternate Universes that I personally think is unparalleled. She is, as far as I know, the mastermind behind several different AU communities - and, obviously, spygate is one of them. This story takes place in this universe, where all the characters (from both SGA and SG-1) have been recast into the espionage business, with Elizabeth Weir and John Sheppard leading the chaos. It's fun. It's cool. It's perfectly in character in some ways, yet fantastically out of character in others (Elizabeth with a gun!). Elizabeth is perhaps written as the coolest character alive here, but Melyanna has in no way made her into a Mary Sue. John is equally as impressive and fleshed out, and have I praised her spygate universe enough yet? 'Cause I could go on, and on. And on. I kid you not.

Just read it, and all the other spygate fics out there. You won't be disappointed at all.
