Future Reminiscing by Sazz (PG-13)
Rec Category: Drama
Pairing: no pairing
Category: Gen, Drama, Action/Adventure, Hurt/Comfort, Daniel, Daniel/Jack Friendship, Angst
Warning: non-graphic mention of childhood trauma
Author on LJ: I don't know.
Author's Website: Sazz's page at All Daniel Fic
Link: Future Reminiscing by Sazz
Why This Must Be Read: The author's description of the story is: "On a seemingly deserted planet, SG1 encounters a surprising leftover culture."
This is one of those stories that I couldn't stop reading once I started it. It has lots of: Daniel, Daniel/Jack friendship, a caring Sam, a little Daniel whumping, some hurt/comfort that doesn't make Daniel seem like a baby, some in-character angst, and a healthy amount of drama.
The story takes a few surprising right turns, but stays true to the characters throughout. Sazz did a fantastic job keeping everyone in character and painting a vivid picture of the surroundings without indulging in overly long descriptions. The story delves somewhat into the friendship of Daniel and Jack, but the main thrust of the story is Daniel and what SG-1 has to do about what they found in the planet they are visiting--and how these two aspects of the story parallel each other. The hurt/comfort is handled skillfully with everyone sympathetic, but not overly so. The angst is not maudlin or over-dramatic.
This story takes place after 100 Days and Shades of Gray and does refer to events from these episodes, but it is not really an episode tag.
