Anyone who knows me knows I'm generally uninterested in the Rodney/John pairing. (I know, blasphemy!) If I rec a story with that pairing, it has to be something special.

The concept is simple: what if John and Rodney had met shortly after Rodney arrived in Antarctica? It's the execution that's extraordinary. Kaneko gives both John and Rodney full, believable backstories, and explores their characters in a fascinating, often funny, sometimes gut-wrenching tale of possibility. I'm an anti-romantic, and even I was verschmoopt by this one.
