Hi, I'm rec-ing Genre: Other this month, so I thought I'd let you know what I intend to do with it.  I thought I'd pick a cliche, or other category that has developed in the Stargate fandom and isn't directly represented in the stargateficrec listings, and concentrate on that for the month.  This month it's Alien's Made Me Do It fic.  The next time I get the category, I may choose Absolute Power fic, or Mini!Jack fic, or Stranded On An Alien Planet fic, or Slavery fic, or Tin Men fic, or First Time fic, or Apocafic...I think you get the idea.  And if anyone wants to pick a category and do the same thing, that's cool, I'll share.  I hope you enjoy the month!

Why This Must Be Read:  This piece is just silly, and a lot of fun.  And it's got one of the most awkward Jack/Daniel "courting scene" pieces of dialogue I've ever read in my life.  It's a damn good thing that the two can practically read each other's minds, 'cause they'd never get anywhere otherwise!  

Here's just a very small slice:
Jack:  "You want me to say more nice stuff about you? I could, I have a list."
Daniel:  "I'm not sure I could take it right now, maybe later."

So basically, the premise is:  A case of mass amnesia strikes the SGC, and the brave crew at Stargate Command have to sort out who they are, what they're doing there and how to get their memories back...all without having a single clue how to start.  And for some strange reason, pretty much everyone in the place thinks they have a "special relationship" with Daniel...

Why This Must Be Read: When it's done right, it can be a lot of fun to see our heroes through the eyes of a third party, and dietcokechic does it very, very right with this entertaining series. Put aside a weekend, kids, because we get to ride the rollercoaster of SG-1's adventures all the way through the end of Season 4, and it's a long, strange trip! Far from being a Mary Sue, our friendly OC is Kira, a college student of (how did we know) Ancient Cultures, who just happens to be Daniel's barista at the local coffee shop. The author has done a really clever job of interweaving canon events and their aftermath into Daniel's interactions with Kira, and her frustration at being unable to put all the pieces together is by turns hysterical and frustrating. Bless her heart, poor Kira can't quite figure out what's going on up there at the Mountain, but she figures it sure must be interesting!

This story is gen, but the slash chick in me has a soft spot for Kira's co-worker Stefan, who persists in referring to Jack and Daniel as "Colonel Sumptuous" and "Dr. Do-Me," respectively. Couldn't have put it better myself! :D

Technically, this is a WIP, but don't let that put you off; each Season is a collection of short stand-alone ficlets that are tied to individual episodes, so while there is an ongoing story, there are no real cliffhangers as such. Plus, according to the author, Season 5 is due to start up soon. Read with confidence!

Why This Must Be Read:  The Stargate Atlantis fic writers are working over-time at  sga_flashfic and it shows.  True, they have their share of bad and good, just like every other community of the sort, but sometimes they really shine.  Come Around is part of the 38 minute challenge which ends tomorrow.  Yes, that's right, it has to be written in 38 minutes.  So obviously, this is a fairly short fic, but it packs a punch.  I was thrilled to find Come Again, it's the first bondage fic I remember reading in Atlantis fandom.  (Don't remember too many kinks at all, for that matter.)   And I'd be glad to be corrected on that point, so if you know better, please let me know.

Come Again is actually a sequel to Competence, which is found on coreopsis live journal.  And it's good as well.  I definitely like Come Around better, but Competence works well as a nice little opener.  You don't, however, have to read it to get what's going on.  I hate to say too much about it, because it will spoil the fic, so here's a little sample that may peak your interest:

He couldn't quite believe that he was actually getting turned on by this, by the idea of Rodney doing this to him, but he was an open minded guy. Or at least he'd become one since he started seeing Rodney.  He'd had to do so, or they'd have never lasted a night much less several weeks.

I'm just sorry it's so short.  Maybe if people like it, and leave feedback, she'll write more!
