Why read it: Poor Ford is the most neglected character on Atlantis, but thankfully we have fanfic authors willing to look past the surface and piece together what the young lieutenant might be thinking and feeling. I call this a friendship story because that's what it's mostly about: Ford trying to relate to his CO, to his team, to the scientists around him, and trying to figure out his place in Atlantis.

(Also, I'd like to give myself massive bonus points for actually venturing into the murky, unknown depths of Heliopolis. I do it out of love, to bring you fanfic. *g*)

Why this must be read: Well, it did win the 2002 Best Gen AU fanfic award. :) And the AU Evil!Daniel is a strange and fascinating creature, one that our Daniel has a hard time dealing with. There's also a slash epilogue for those who like that sort of thing (me, me, pick me!), but if slash is not your thing you don't need to read it.
