Why This Must Be Read: What do you mean, pointing and squeeing and flailing my hands does not a rec make? Hmf!

I read this when it was being posted as a WIP to the SG1HC discussion list. Ordinarily, I don't read WIPs, but this one had an item on the header changed my mind:

"Crossover with 'I, Claudius.'"

For those of you unfamiliar with "I, Claudius," it's a British miniseries about the life of the Emperor Claudius, who (allegedly) survived to a ripe old age in the Imperial family and eventually inherited the throne by pretending to be an idiot. I think the story works even without knowledge of "I, Claudius" or Roman history, but if you love the miniseries, too, you must read this fic!

Those of you who are now scratching your heads, wait! If you love hurt/comfort, this is also your fic. The Jack and Daniel whumping gets pretty extreme at times, but the fic is oh so worth it. The relationships between the characters are wonderful. Also, it's a nice, long novel-length fic.

"When in Rome" is gen, but there's a slash missing scene for those who want it. I love the slash missing scene, but if slash isn't your thing you don't need to read it to enjoy the rest of the fic.

Why read it: This is my favourite of sef1029's stories for many reasons; I'll try to list just a few. Firstly, the series of snippets is narrated from the point-of-view of a table, Jack's desk, and we feel a thrill of voyeurism as we hear the table observe the people around it, and feel for them. (It's a very compassionate table!) Secondly, the AU world -- a post-Civil War town in the American Southwest called Tok'ra Flats -- is wonderfully fleshed out with little details that seem inconsequential, yet echo the regular SGverse. Lastly, her Jack is just so Jack. He's warm and loving and cranky and sceptical. I adore him :)

Go read the "Table in Tok'ra Flats" series.
