Hi, I'm Zelda and I'll be your Crossover rec'cer, albeit running a bit behind, for this month. I'll try to make up for the lateness with two recs for today. :D
To me, a good crossover blends the two universes together in such a way that you don't even think about the fact that these characters shouldn't/don't know each other. Common Grounds is one such crossover, bringing together Daniel Jackson and Danny Taylor from Without a Trace. Set after Homecoming, to quote the authors' summary: 'Two old friends catch up in a New York bar.' But it really is so much more than that. Here, two characters have more alike than just a first name and they discover a few more of those similarities. They also have a friendship that has managed to survive two disappearing acts on Daniel's part, the most recent of which has necessitated this meeting between the two of them. Funny at times, poignant at others, and a look into both men and their relationships with their co-workers and their friendship with each other. While some background knowledge of WaT could help, I don't believe it is necessary - though, if you're like me, this could prompt you to searching out WaT fic. ;)
