It packs a lot into under 1000 words!
You can see a working relationship and a friendship building long before any romance would happen, and the author builds a reason for these two to get together other than the obvious similarities between McGyver and Jack.
Also, it’s POV episode follow up and with two people who would be quite useful in an apocalypse, it’s a good apocafic as well.
