Then she took the pills away, and he felt a little defeat slip inside. He stared at the table as she moved behind him again, still feeling the pressure of her hand on his shoulder. He had a sudden image of her hand sliding from his shoulder to his neck and then her fingers sliding through his hair, soothing over his scalp, tugging a little in affection. His scalp prickled, and he could practically feel the cool air between the strands of his hair. He felt suddenly very alert, and he sat up.
