This is a soothing, fluffy fic with just enough humour to give you that twitchy must-suppress-smirk-so-I-don't-get-fired look while you're reading it at work. If you've never tried a Sam/Daniel before, I highly recommend starting with this one.

It's Team-Building Night for SG-1, and Daniel feels his mediation skills are up to the task. Of course, given that he's both slightly drunk and so very much himself, he's totally screwed.

Team-Building Lesson No. 1: When an argument with sexist connotations is brewing between a very female military officer and her CO, avoid self-insertion. Daniel will remember this lesson for years to come.

Little Heaven manages to write something rare here: a sex scene which is rich and emotional while still remaining near-gen. Sam's struggling to figure out the particle accelerator that could rescue Jack from Edora. Daniel's just struggling. The comfort they find in each other is both endearing and scorchingly hot.

Why This Must Be Read: I've never been a believer in the idea that any old Daniel (or Jack, or Teal'c, or Carter) could just slide into any other Daniel's slot, that they're interchangeable and just alike simply because they share the same DNA. Each reality's Daniel (or Jack, or Teal'c, or Carter) is going to evolve based on their own individual experiences, and maybe even react differently to the same experiences, and become their own person. Multiplicity ably portrays this when more than one SG-1 arrives on the same planet at the same time, and the author works amazingly clear magic in defining each doppleganger from the other, and for the reader, amidst the visceral confusion and horror of a battle with Apophis' Jaffa. Each version is credible and realistic, recognizable yet different, not least of all the Daniels who are all necessary to hold one team together.

Why This Must Be Read:

This is a wonderful piece of science fiction in addition to being an SG-1 Sam/Daniel relationship fic. The OC's and their races are fascinating and I keep hoping Thraesja will write more with them. The Sam/Daniel buildup is slow and subtle and the story ends on its beginning. The OC angst pours out in chapter 10 and is simply heartbreaking.

Why this must be read:

He looked so normal, so real. This was what she was supposed to have at this point in her life. There was supposed to be a man under the sink. He was supposed to take care of things like leaky traps, and he was supposed to be proud of her and love her, and she was supposed to come home to him every night.

A fic that shows how close the friendship is between Daniel and Sam and how easily it could become something more if one of them just asked for it. When Daniel attempts to fix Sam's pipes, it hits Sam just what she is missing in her life, but Daniel, being Daniel, knows just what to do to make her feel better. The entire fic is a very natural progression and although there are moments that have the potential to be incredibly awkward, Raqs makes them flow beautifully

Why this must be read:

Sam thought about how Colonel O’Neill and Daniel had been acting. Daniel had said repeatedly that he loved her. The Colonel had said that he wanted her. That was quite a difference. In fact, it was a significant difference. She contemplated the implications of this observation

Unfortunately there is a bit of a tendency in the Daniel/Sam community to harshly criticise other pairings in fic to emphsis how great Daniel and Sam are together and this oftens means that fics are turned into condescending meta. Thankfully this fic is not one of them. The reasons that Sam has for choosing Daniel over Jack are wonderfully woven into the story line and make it seem very natural. It is also a very passionate story, without there being much more than kissing, which for me is a sign of great writing. Although there is a happy ending there is plenty of angst and drama along the way. Whilst this fic is kind of the Broca Divide part 2, it is still well worth reading

The game sustained them when little else could. When it seemed that every step through the event horizon was too much to bear. When under enemy fire, or in the middle of another impossible situation. They could look back in their minds at moments of true beauty.

For all the horrible things the SG teams must see, you have to wonder how they would escape it.

raindroproses shows how a chance encounter for Daniel and Sam turned into something more and helped them through their hardest and sometimes just plain boring moments. This really is the close friends from the early seasons just taking a break, with a hint of something more

Why this must be read:

Sam ignored them, part of her brain still processing the idea that her fellow geek in arms was kind of a hottie while the rest of it wondered if there was any way she could institute bathing suit day at the SGC.

A very funny and endearing look at the team during downtime at the beach, interacting with each other when the fate of the planet is not at stake. You get a glimpse at the friendship between Vala and Sam, where they just get to be girly best friends and the slightly goofy friendship between Cam and Sam. You also get to see that very rare creature of season 9 & 10, a relaxed and happy Daniel, which is nice, because I've missed him :) Some of the imagery from bathing suit day at the SGC will leave you not knowing whether to laugh or cringe or both!

Why this must be read:

To them, nothing had happened. But to Daniel, everything had. And that’s what he was having the hardest time coming to terms with.

A beautiful and heart-wrenching look at Daniel's thoughts after Absolute Power. He feels most guilty about what he did to Sam and how he used their relationship to try and manipulate her, but then because they know each other so well Sam wasn't going to fall for it. You also get a look at Daniel's thought process during this slightly AU version of Absolute Power and how he was trying to justify his actions. By the time you reach the climax of the story you feel that Daniel may never forgive himself but the last scene will leave you convinced there is hope :)

So why, oh why, have I decided to rec not just a story but a complete series you ask? Because I am absolutly crazy!

Honestly, I love this series, I love the characters, I love the story lines and plot. I love how everthing gets all twisted up together and it still makes sense!

This story is set post season 8 of Stargate SG1 and continues on as though seasons nine and ten never happened. We get a to see into a future that has the stargate program declassified and our beloved team shoved into the hungry jaws of the media. Meriem writes a very realistic view on the kinds of stresses that fame can place on the friendships between the team. And we're taken along for the ride as Daniel, Jack, Sam, and Teal'c just try to stay above water while they deal with the everyday issues of life mixed with political meddling and imperialistic attitdues Earth has towards the rest of the Milky Way Galaxy populations.

Why This Must Be Read:

M writes a particularly gritty, edgy brand of SG-1. If gritty and edgy are your thing, go straight to the fic and when you're done click the 'home' button at the bottom and read everything else she's written -- it's all fascinating, gripping stuff. If you're looking for J/D romance, you're not going to find it in this one; there's nothing soft or gentle here, and although one brush of near-tenderness stands out the more starkly for that, it's a fleeting moment in a harsh encounter. But the rewards in character insight are worth the pain -- and that the themes play out between Daniel and Jack isn't authorial whim or convenience. It's exactly how this story had to be told, and says a lot about the bond between them, whatever form it takes, even if it's the last strand of a fraying rope.

I especially love the resonance of the title, which evokes all the interpretive symbolism of the twelfth card in the major arcana of the tarot, and adds all kinds of layers to this portrayal of Daniel. It's a good name for the fic-as-fic, too: you can look at it right side up or upside down, and it'll always be looking back at you the other way.

About 5500 words, set sometime in Season 5.

surrealis takes us to the universe we saw in the episode 'Point of View' in this beautifully written fic. The Earth is practically destroyed, the remaining survivors are trying to build up society again. And Daniel Jackson has no idea about why his world has changed so much until one day Samantha Carter finds him. The author has a wonderful way with words, the romance is wonderfully written and the smut is very hot. Even if you are not usually into het or apocafics, give this a try.
