Why This Must Be Read: The text version is no longer accessible, so the way to enjoy this quirky masterpiece is the podfic. "A Dog's Breakfast" features David Hewlett as Patrick, largely solitary and highly neurodivergent. In this fic he's bothered by his house expanding after his sister moves out after temporarily staying with him. Eventually he realises he's lonely and after some misadventures, recalls Amy, his teenage girlfriend, and tries to track her down. Eventually, enter John Sheppard, who proves to be just as idiosyncratic as Patrick. It's sweet, funny, and an excellent story, beautifully read as usual, by general_jinjur.

Why this must be read: This is a wonderful post-canon piece where Rodney and John are estranged due to their own inability to have deep conversations. They meet in an elevator, which of course breaks down, forcing them to finally talk and admit their feelings for one another. Rodney is struggling with the tight quarters and the fact he's stuck with this person he's built so much anger and resentment at. Meanwhile, John's clearly not sure why Rodney's so upset in the first place. It's such a real interaction that unfolds bit by bit, until at last they see the whole picture and how they could have been together all along. It makes my whole heart swell.

Mas is an excellent author with many amazing stories, but this one is my favorite. Mas does such a wonderful job here of showing us John and Rodney's perfectly in character tension and their confusion that I had to keep rereading this fic to go back and re-experience all the feels.

It's a lovely piece that's well worth reading time and time again. In fact, I loved it so much, in fact, that I made a podfic of it just so I could keep going back and listening.

Why This Must Be Read: I sought out the movie Cube after falling into SGA fandom - it's excellent and David Hewlett's in it. This story puts team AR1 in the Cube building, which is a sometimes-deadly huge 3-D prison maze that requires spatial problem-solving and math skills to survive and escape from. This is great teamfic and action/adventure, largely gen with a little "friends to dating" McShep at the end. I love how respoftw took the concept of the cube maze from the movie and made it fit into Pegasus cultures and missions. An excellent read!

Why This Must Be Read: This is a long, dramatic, and satisfying tale, set in Atlantis post canon, in which John and Cam have a long distance relationship. Then John Crichton turns up amid some Traveler refugees and everything gets very complicated as Cam's sent from Earth to try and help debrief him, and is then mistakenly "rescued" by Aeryn and the Moya crew from Farscape. Shenanigans follow, not least with the menace of two Wraith hives threatening everyone. In the middle of all this, John's team realise he's been in a secret long-term relationship with Cam without telling them, and stage an intervention to try and stop him shooting himself in the foot. There's lots of plot, interesting complexities from the Farscape lookalikes, and a touch of team SG1 at the end. An excellent read!
