Why This Must Be Read: Because it’s a perfect characterization of Janet and SG-1 in the very early days of the SGC. Not to mention the story is absolutely hilarious between Janet’s silent commentary and the antics of Jack and Daniel. It’s a rare thing to read a first person fic that’s not written from the perspective of SG-1. Here, it is only Janet’s third day on the job, so we get the pleasure of watching her make the infirmary her own and an outsider’s observations as Jack, Sam, Daniel, and Teal’c find a way to work together in a time when traveling through the stargate was still new to everyone (except Teal’c of course).
She’d been warned SG-1 was a motley crew, but that didn’t quite prepare her for the full onslaught of weirdness as the other team members came up beside O’Neill, regarding her like curious children. Next to the usual cookie-cutter military team team, SG-1 stood out like glow-in-the-dark crayons in a sea of pencils: one typical Air Force guy, a female officer staring at her hopefully, a hulking alien warrior who reminded her of those statues on Easter Island, and a civilian blinking rapidly at her behind his glasses.
