Why this must be read:
Inspired by Whizzy's other AU, The Black Helicopter Series, this fic will leave you blinking at the ending and just shivering. Rodney moves to the North of Canada to his uncle's old cable broadcasting building after a scandal at his previous job. After fiddling with a radio, however, he starts to dream of a dark-haired man and getting a distress call that will come to make no sense. At times this fic seemed like a straight forward narrative; and yet, whizzy would pull right turns and flips that leave me on the edge of my seat, wondering where the story was going from there. And the ending... Just WOW.... This fic will keep you up and checking those dark corners and closets for dark-haired men.
Story Summary: There was an entire pantheon of things Rodney was willing to concede could exist, even though he'd never personally witnessed evidence thereof. Time travel, for starters. Space aliens. The perfect man. But he absolutely, positively could not accept that he'd been dreaming of a guy he'd never seen before in his life, who turned out to be real.
As bizarre as his day had been, it shouldn't have been any surprise that his dreams were just as disconcerting.
Or make that dream, singular. In it, he'd been searching frantically through his house -- upending drawers, ransacking cabinets, and rifling through closets -- while John's voice urged him on. Rodney, please. I- I don't know where I am. It's dark. I can't see. Why can't I see anything? Please, you've gotta help me.
He'd opened his eyes to discover a dark, man-sized silhouette standing at the foot of his bed.
Then he'd opened his eyes again -- for real this time -- and flailed for the bedside lamp while screeching like a cheerleader in a slasher flick.
Of course there had been nothing there. But sleep after that... so wasn't happening.
